Chasing Light: Terms & Attribution

Last updated 31 August 2026 · Chasing Light is made by Josh Beames Photography

1. The agreement

These terms cover the Chasing Light app and the member features it shares with chasingperspectives.com. By creating an account, starting a trial or using the app you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

2. Your account

One account works across the app and the website. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details private and for what happens under your account. You can browse as a guest, but purchases, saved spots and community features need an account so they can stay attached to you.

You can delete your account at any time, from your profile in the app or by emailing us. Deleting it removes your profile and login, your posts and comments, your bucket list, your saved spots and alerts, your course progress, and every device signed in. Bookings and payments have to be kept as a financial record, so they stay on as anonymous transactions with your name, email and phone removed. Deleting your account does not cancel an Apple subscription; cancel that through your Apple ID.

4. Forecasts are guidance, not guarantees

Chasing Light brings together live space weather, meteorology, satellite imagery and our own scoring models to help you decide where to point a camera. Nature does not follow forecasts. Aurora, cloud, golden hour and storm predictions can be wrong, late or incomplete, and data feeds can drop out.

Please chase safely. Night driving, remote locations, coastlines and severe weather carry real risk. Never rely on this app as a safety tool or a severe weather warning service. Follow official warnings from the Bureau of Meteorology and local authorities, and make your own judgement in the field. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for decisions made, or losses suffered, in reliance on forecasts shown in the app.

The content

The app itself

Chasing Light is not a repackaged weather feed. The public data behind it is credited in full below, and we are glad to credit it. What the app does with that data is ours: the models, the scoring, the thresholds, the tuning, and the way a result is presented. That includes the Golden Hour Index, the Stargazing Score, the aurora visibility model, the storm sounding and chase scoring, our own night-sky brightness bake, the night planner and the camera settings engine. So are the software and its source code, the interface and its artwork, the medal designs, and the wording throughout the app.

Put plainly, you may not:

The methods behind the forecasting are confidential. Being given access to the app is not permission to reproduce how it works.

The names

Chasing Perspectives® is a registered trade mark of Josh Beames Photography. Chasing Light, The Chase, Chaser Pro and Chasing Admin are products and services of that brand, and the copyright in them, in everything they contain and in the software behind them, belongs to Josh Beames Photography. The aurora and mountain marks are brand assets of the same.

They are not free to use. You may not use the names, the marks, the wording or the visual identity for your own app, product, service, listing or promotion, you may not use anything confusingly similar to them, and you may not present your work in a way that suggests we made it, supplied it or endorsed it.

7. Data sources & attribution
